Welcome to The Ethical Community Charter School!
From the Principal of TECCS-NY
I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to The Ethical Community Charter School (TECCS) website.
I am honored to be the leader of a vibrant and special school in Brooklyn, New York, a model for progressive public education with a mission that focuses on developing an understanding of ethical behavior within its community.
The school operates under the guidance of a Board of Trustees and our authorizer, the New York City Department of Education. Our building is on the third floor of a Department of Education Building and is very well equipped for early childhood learning experiences. The faculty is highly qualified under No Child Left Behind and is regarded for its competency and caring by the families in the school.
In our third year of operation, a new school presents opportunities for various beginnings throughout its new development. However, innovation alone cannot engender transformation of this growing community. Together we are laying foundations for higher achievement and enriched growth for our students. Our common goal is to accomplish what is in the best interest of the students academically while developing the whole individual; to offer them opportunities for their future education and careers as life-long learners and responsible citizens.
It is our ultimate goal to provide guidance to students to make a lasting contribution to the global community through our service initiatives and the program of ethics education. The mission of TECCS draws together students, parents, and faculty to sustain this purpose. The process of education commences at home, continues in our school, in our community, and beyond.
This is another unique period of time in the evolution of public education in the United States with numerous initiatives for innovation required of schools, both charter and district schools. TECCS is embracing these reforms with special attention in 2011 – 2012 on developing a learning community, not only of children, but also for the adults.
There are three main areas of focus that provide coherence in the children’s instructional programs and offer a common language and goals for the school. These are:
(1) A teacher evaluation system that constitutes a comprehensive framework that reflects the complexity of teaching. It is designed to develop a professional practice that holds the members of the teaching staff and administration to high standards.
(2) A commitment to the instructional shifts for the Common Core Standards in Literacy and Math.
(3) Data Driven Instruction, which is a long term process to develop assessment tools to tell us what we are teaching to our students. The purpose is to show us where we need to change or create new approaches to the learning challenges of each child. The goal is to have every child ready for college and careers. This process begins with early childhood experiences and is reflected back to the professional community in the form of real information. TECCS uses established benchmark testing and is creating assessments unique to its curriculum.
I encourage you to explore our website to see what opportunities TECCS offers to its students and families. If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
