Charter schools are free, public schools. Any child in New York City may apply to a charter school. Admission is done by lottery. Admission preference is given to siblings of currently enrolled students and to applicants from the Community School District.

To be able to attend The Ethical Community Charter School, the family must submit an application to the School prior to the lottery. Families may call or visit the School. The application period will be January through March, with the admission lottery conducted in April.  The deadline for applications is every April 1st.

Once a grade is full, the remaining students are put on a Waiting List, determined by the order in which the names were chosen in the lottery. After the students are chosen in the lottery, all families are notified of the outcome, whether a student was admitted or put on the Waiting List.

Please note:  Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before December 31, 2010.
