Please join us at 9 a. m. on Tuesday, June 28th, in the Auditorium for the Closing Ceremony for 2011. The children are preparing to share some of their reflections about their learning. Come celebrate with us! Then visit the classrooms for a farewell until we see you again on August 29th.

Family Involvement
At The Ethical Community Charter School we believe that parents and families are an integral part of our school community and consider them partners in the educational journey. We rely on their willingness to share insights about their child, to communicate openly and regularly, and to actively participate in the child’s academic and social development in order to ensure that each student reaches his or her full potential.
We reach out to build and nurture our relationships with families in a variety of ways. We conduct Home Visits at the beginning of each year, we have parent teacher conferences twice a year and we encourage phone calls, emails, and face to face conferences as frequently as necessary. In addition, we send home weekly classroom and whole school newsletters, we communicate daily through our take home folders, and we organize whole school social, informational, and celebratory events to foster a true feeling of community.
We also have a Families and Teachers Association of which every family is a member by virtue of having a student enrolled at TECCS. The goal of the FTA is to enrich the TECCS community, to enhance the students’ educational experience, and support students, teachers, and families.
Family Teachers Association (FTA)
We will have a Family Teachers Association (FTA) that will support parents in communicating with the school, provide events for families and, in general, help create an environment where parents are a part of the school community. The FTA will include teacher, administrator, parent, business and community partners. The members of the FTA will work together to review school goals in order to select, design, implement, and evaluate parent and community invovlement. The FTA’s primary goal is to involve families and the community in productive ways so that all students reach important educational goals for learning and success.
Calendar
At TECCS we have 190 school days, a longer school year than most schools. We hope that the extra days will give us time to reinforce important knowledge and skills and to provide the enrichment and hands-on learning activities that are so important to true understanding.
Lunch
We will share the lunchroom with P.S. 297 and will use their food service. The principal of P.S. 297 and our principal will work with the dietician to make sure the meals are tasty and nutritious.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many opportunities for parents and community members to support their children and the school’s programs. Please watch this space for specific volunteer requests.
