Michele Wellington
1st Grade
Michele Wellington

Hello! My name is Michele Wellington and I come to you with 6 years of experience teaching first grade. I have B.A. in Psychology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and an M.A. in Urban Education from Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts. I taught first grade for two years in Boston Public Schools and another three years in first grade at P.S. 375 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I am returning for my second year to teach first grade at TECCS.

My assistant is Giselle Ramoutar. She recently graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in childhood education. She is planning to attend graduate school in the spring to further her career. She has worked with children since she was seventeen years old with a small tutoring company in Bensonhurst. Last year she completed her student teaching at P.S. 24 in Sunset Park which gave her the opportunity to work in the afterschool program there as well. This is her first year at TECCS as a teacher’s assistant.

For the 2011-2021 school year I have the pleasure of working with a dynamic group of first graders called "The Peaceful Ponies."

Newsletter : January 16-20, 2012

Dear Families,

We have just begun a new unit of study in math where we will gather and represent data, and also touch on the graphing of data.  The students will ask questions of their peers and then learn how to record their answers, code them, and finally take their own surveys and create a poster with their results.  We will start by asking questions like “What would you rather be, an eagle or a whale?”  They will get answers from their friends, then learn how we record these answers in a way that is readable and understandable to others.  We will discuss using tally marks, and what the results of surveys might tell us and how we could use that information.
We are continuing the study of solids and liquids this week before we go on to study solids in bits and pieces.  We will add a lot of vocabulary to our study, so ask your child about viscous, transparent, translucent and foamy liquids, and see if they can tell you what these words mean.
Please remember we do go outside for recess so please MAKE SURE the friends have cold-weather clothing:  hats, gloves, boots, etc.
